January is cervical cancer awareness month so let's take a moment to acknowledge its importance, Cervical cancer affects millions of women worldwide. It's the 4th most common cancer in women, but it is preventable and curable when discovered early. Cervical cancer is caused by persistent infection with the human papillomavirus (HPV). Almost all sexually active people will be infected at some point in their lives, usually without symptoms. When one fails to practice safe sex or have early sexual intercourse, that person may contract this infection. Prevention measures can significantly reduce the risk of developing this infection. Prevention is always better than cure.
Get vaccinated against HPV. Get screened. Get informed.
