The KNUST SRC, through the Public Relations Office has as part of its efforts to enable public relations offices of several student associations under the SRC increase their connection to students, organized the maiden edition of the Public Relations Summit under the theme “Strengthening Public Relations Offices for Proper and efficient information Dissemination” at the Gardiner Conference room.
Speaking at the event, which was held on Saturday, April 2, 2022, the University Relations Officer of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Dr. Daniel Norris Bekoe explained that “the programme has been designed to create a platform that seeks to cushion public relations officers of the various student associations on how to bridge the gap between student administrations and the membership of their associations”.
The first session of the summit facilitated by Dr. Ginn Assibey and Mr. Henry Adams (former PRO for the Graduate Students Association of Ghana-KNUST Chapter) who took participants through ‘ Utilizing Social media for strategic communication’ and ‘ The art of public speaking and crisis communication’ respectfully.
Also speaking at the summit, Mr. Padi Narh, the Public Relations Officer of Ghana Water Company Limited-Ashanti Region, disclosed that public relations is guided by a lot of ethical codes that required discipline to adhere to. He admonished participants to always be mindful of their actions as they are brand ambassadors of the various associations they represent.
Other facilitators in attendance were Nana Jantuah, the General Manager of Focus FM and the SRC Public Relations Officers.
The Summit saw to the training of PROs drawn from Non-Residential caucus, Colleges, Halls of resident, Faculties, Departments, the International Students Association and reps from the Distance Learning Students Association satellite campuses.
