The Legal Affairs Commission is a constitutionally mandated Standing Committee of the KNUST Students’ Representative Council (SRC), established under Article 66(1) of the SRC Constitution (2021 as amended).
The Commission is chaired by the Legal Affairs Commissioner, who also serves as the Chief Legal Counsel of the Executive Council under Article 31 of the Constitution. The Commissioner is supported by two deputies and six other appointed members, forming a dynamic legal team committed to ensuring legality, accountability, and constitutional order within the SRC.

Roles and Responsibilities
- Advisory Role
The Commission advises the Executive Council, Parliamentary Council, and Judicial Council on all legal and constitutional matters relating to student governance.
- Oversight of Clubs and Associations
It reviews the constitutions, regulations, and internal rules of Clubs, Societies, Associations, and JCRs to ensure alignment with the SRC Constitution and University policies.
- Judicial Representation
The Commission represents the SRC at Judicial Committee hearings, particularly in proceedings involving the Executive. It may also represent individual students, provided the matter does not involve the Executive Council (per Article 31(4)).
- Constitutional Enforcement
As the legal watchdog of the SRC, the Commission is empowered to initiate proceedings against any officeholder who violates constitutional provisions, including the SRC officers if necessary.
- Legal Education & Awareness
The Commission plays a proactive role in educating students about their legal rights and responsibilities under the Constitution of Ghana, University regulations, and SRC Constitution. It also provides legal explanations of high-profile SRC judicial rulings.
